Deal on Tehran-Almaty Flights |

Transportation ministers of Iran and Kazakhstan have reached an agreement on direct flights between Tehran and Almaty and vice versa as well as to increase the number of freight trucks plying between the two countries and set up Kazakhstan's railway office in Iran.
According to IRIB, in Wednesday's joint economic commission meeting, Iran's Minister of Road and Transportation Mohammad Rahmati and his Kazakhstan counterpart Serik Ahmadov also agreed on establishing a railway link along the Caspian coast to develop transportation and economic ties between the two neighboring states.
According to Rahmati, both countries can reduce transportation costs by offering low-price services to the public. The new flight will also offer cheaper and faster air travel.
He highlighted cultural commonalities between the two states and predicted that the new air route will transport 150 passengers daily.
"However, road transport which constitutes 90 percent of the transportation will benefit both countries," he added.
Ahmadov also said important decisions were made at the meeting in which Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki was also present.
He added that his country's private sector is eager to expand ties in the transportation sector with the Islamic Republic of Iran.
He similarly laid emphasis on the importance of building a railway line, adding that the two neighbors can reduce costs to expand the sector.
He invited Iranian investors to take part in his country's sea port development projects in the coming year.
